Technology Department Update on Student Devices

For more than a decade, Hoover City Schools has provided a device for every student while also allowing students to bring their own devices (BYOD). As technology and security needs continue to evolve, we are updating this approach.

Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, all students will use a district-issued device during the school day, as Hoover City Schools will no longer allow students to bring their own devices to school. This change helps us create a more consistent, safe, and reliable learning experience for every student.

Using district devices allows us to provide faster support when issues arise, ensure all students have access to the same tools and resources in class, and reduce interruptions to instruction. It also helps us better protect students online through secure systems and content filtering, while aligning with current state expectations, including the Alabama FOCUS Act.

This information has been updated in the district’s Technology Use Agreement, which parents and students review annually during online registration. We appreciate your support as we continue to work to provide a safe and effective learning environment for all students.

Attention Seniors!

Senior Letter for the Class of 2027

Dear Class of 2027,

Happy Summer! Congratulations on completing your junior year strong and officially becoming seniors! Senior year is an exciting time filled with celebrations, important decisions, and milestones. While we hope you take the time to relax and enjoy your summer, there are several steps you can take now to make the college, career, and postsecondary planning process much smoother when school begins in August.

This includes diploma and graduation program name spelling and cap & gown ordering information.
  • Finalize your College and Career Plans
Double check deadlines and admission requirements for each school on your list.
  • Prepare for College Applications (August 1)
Most college applications open by August 1st. Early applicants are often the most competitive so make sure you are applying early!
  • Set Up your Parchment Account
If you haven’t already, check your student email for your custom link to set up your account. You’ll use Parchment to order transcripts once you start applying to colleges and programs.
  • Create your Common App Account (if applying out of state)
For in state schools, you should plan to use their institutional applications.
  • Request Recommendation Letters
Some college applications will require a counselor letter of recommendation. Mrs. Lallone, College Counselor, writes all of these for seniors. If you need a counselor letter of rec complete ALL steps below:
  1. Request a Letter of Recommendation here
  2. Students will need to complete the Personal Profile form here
  3. A parent or guardian will need to complete the Parent Brag Form here.
  • Visit College Campuses
Summer is a great time to explore schools and find your best fit. Can’t visit in person? Most schools have a virtual tour option that can help you decide if you want to apply there.
  • ACT Prep
Use Method Learning in Clever as a Free ACT and SAT Prep resource.
  • Check your School Email Regularly
Important updates and deadlines will be sent to your school email, even over the summer. Check it daily and reply promptly when needed.
  • Connect with the College and Career Office
You can always schedule an appointment with Mrs. Lallone to discuss your applications, essays, letters of recommendation, and next steps for you!

We are excited to be a part of your senior year and will support you every step of the way. Enjoy the remainder of your summer, and let’s make senior year your best year yet!

Sincerely,
HHS College and Career Department
