What is JROTC? The program’s mission statement is “To develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.” But what JROTC really is here at Hoover High School is a place where there are unique & special opportunities!
What kinds of opportunities can you find in JROTC?
The opportunity to compete in a National Championship! The Hoover H.S. JROTC Competition Drill Team is one of the strongest in the state of Alabama, and a national contender. This year we have won over 20 trophies in major competitions, host of the largest drill competitions in the state, and plan to travel to the Air Force National Championships in Dayton, Ohio.
The opportunity to pursue interesting activities, such as Flying Drones, Archery, or Orienteering. Ultimately, our best & brightest cadets are eligible to compete for opportunities such earning their private pilot certification thru the Chief of Staff’s Flight Academy.
The opportunity to compete for military academies and college scholarships. JROTC Cadets can earn direct nominations to elite institutions such as West Point (the U.S. Military Academy), Annapolis (the U.S. Naval Academy) or the Air Force Academy. And they can compete for ROTC Leadership scholarships designed specifically for JROTC Cadets.
The opportunity to find a place to belong & fit in here at Hoover High School. Our Cadets represent Hoover H.S. in many important roles, such as presenting the Color Guard and Push Up teams at home football games or the JROTC Academic Challenge Bowl Team.
The opportunity not just learn about leadership from a book, but learn by leading. Our cadets are pushed to take charge of every aspect of the JROTC program, learning first-hand about teamwork, positive motivation, and working hard. And throughout every event, they will directly apply the Air Force core values of “integrity first,” “excellence in all we do,” and “service before self.”
There is NO obligation to join the military, and participation in the JROTC program is completely voluntary. But if you make an investment in JROTC, the rewards that a student can reap are well worth it.
